Burglar or Second Story Man

Also called “Cracksmen” in underworld parlance.  A “Screwsman” is a burglar that specializes in opening safes.

Stealth and silence and awareness of what is happening around them are essential for a burglar getting in and out without being caught.  As a result Burglars have the following benefits regarding Surprise Rolls;

Tools of the Trade for a Cracksmen

The Jemmy (a small crowbar used to wrench open doors and windows) also called a “Rook.”‘
The Cutter (a tool to cut holes in woodwork)
A dozen Betties (lockpicks),
A Jack for removing or bending iron bars
A Dark-Lantern,
A Life-Preserver (a sap or blackjack)
A Chiv  (a knife, to cut glass)
A Rope, to be used as a rope ladder
A few Kates (skeleton keys)
Lists are strips of cloth that the tools are wrapped in to facilitate easy disposal if a search by police seems likely.
Jack-in-the-box is a special tool designed to pry open all but the toughest safe, or “Peter.”
